Posture, Ergonomics,
Gait, Motion Control And Osteopathy |
|
Considering the human musculo-skeletal
system as a piece of machinery, its efficiency can be measured by
comparing its quality of performance compared with its energy
uptake and wear and tear. Advice and education that keeps this
efficiency high in our locomotor system can give benefits in a
number of ways :
| Firstly - |
pain reduction; musculo-skeletal pain will often respond,
particularly in the long term, to gait, posture and
ergonomic re-education. |
| Secondly - |
personal performance and skill development can be enhanced;
an efficient performer makes things look easy and has more
mental and physical time and energy to concentrate on the
finer details of performance. |
| Thirdly - |
a more efficient locomotive performance can free an
individual from tiring restrictions and assist in their
personal development. |
Osteopaths understand the workings of
the musculo-skeletal locomotor system intimately. For instance, the
understanding of function and problems during active use is
unique and original to Osteopathy.

Posture, gait, ergonomic assessment and
advice can be given as part of or following other forms of
osteopathic treatment, or it can be given in its own right as an
education programme.
Beyond individual cases many companies
are finding huge benefits in seeking osteopathic assessment of their
workplace. Amongst others, two international companies with local
bases have reaped the benefit of seeking such advice from Jonathan
Cove.
