Hippocrates
was the first believer in a logical solution to life's problems,
including health (believing a reason existed why illness had occurred
as opposed to becoming ill being because one might have displeased
the Gods), and his tools to help when ill health struck were his
hands, simple techniques such as poultices and baths, and the plants
and other natural sources of substances around him.
The
more recent allopathic (conventional) approach gained a monopoly
earlier this century but prior to that the two forms of medicine
existed together, influencing each other, coming together and then
becoming poles apart.
Naturopathy
attempts to retain health rather than let ill health develop and
then seek rescue treatment, and when ill health does occur the least
invasive and destructive method of regaining health is used as far
as possible, and it allows greater knowledge of and hence responsibility
for ones' own health than the currently conventional approach. In
its broadest sense it encompasses any non-invasive form of therapy
not currently used by conventional medicine; and includes all herbalism
and homeopathy, diet and nutrition, self help techniques and daily
regimes, physical therapy, and so forth.
As
research into treatment methods other than pharmaceutical preparations
slowly increases it is producing a growing body of hard evidence
that many illnesses can be treated very effectively with simple
nutritional supplements (vitamins, minerals, trace elements, oils
etc.), and botanical medicines and other naturopathic techniques.
The advantages of these types of medicines are their lack of side
effects, availability to all the general public, and lack of reliance
on any established chain of medical services, and cost effectiveness.
Osteopathy
and Naturopathy have been intricately linked since its earliest
days; all the great early Osteopaths were Naturopaths. An Osteopath
can diagnose and then advise you whether you can safely use the
Naturopathic approach to help you remain healthy or get over any
illnesses, of which a selection of common illnesses that can be
helped with Naturopathy are below:
Asthma,
Eczema, Psoriasis, Irritable Bowel, Colitis, Chrons Disease, Raynauds,
ME, Allergies, Amenorrhoea, PMT, Sinusitis, Bronchitis, Arthritis,
Acne, Coughs/Colds, Catarrh, Constipation, Tiredness, Haemorrhoids,
Cystitis, Recurrent Infections, Heartburn, Indigestion, Weight problems,
