Traffic
accidents frequently do not involve fractures or internal injuries,
but can cause joint injury that leads to often severe levels of
pain and disability. A characteristic onset in many of these cases
is that there may be little pain at the time of the accident, but
because of the injury that has been caused, the pain will gradually
appear anything from hours to months later.
These
types of forces to the body often over extend joints of the periphery
or spine, beyond their normal position, causing injury to the soft
tissues that hold these joints together. Alternatively the surfaces
of joints can be forced into each other causing damage to the smooth
surfaces and membranes of the joint. Also old injuries and weaknesses
are often stirred up in these types of injuries, making them painful
again.
Falls
and trips (such as those on uneven pavements) cause a similar pattern
of injury as for whiplash, but often with an element of a direct
blow bruising or displacing part of the anatomy, all of which respond
excellently to osteopathic treatment. This injury will usually not
show on an X-ray, blood test or other hospital test, but is exactly
the type of problem an osteopath can easily diagnose and treat successfully.
Similarly
a consultants report for a claim can give an agent/solicitor little
to work with on your behalf because the consultant can see no problem,
an osteopaths report details all the injuries and future prospects
and other details essential for a successful claim.
