This
growing area of problems has actually always been an affliction
for humans, but our modern lifestyles are applying extra demands
on the uses of our forearms and upper backs, increasingly in both
quantity and in different fashions and duration of motion. The design
of our body has evolved slowly, but our lifestyle change is gathering
pace. Osteopathic manipulation is ideally suited to consistently
resolve these problems, osteopaths have been doing so over many
decades as the names of these conditions have changed. The manipulative
hand skills an osteopath can employ quickly and simply ease the
pain, restriction and disability of this type of problem without
the potential risk factors of more interventionist treatment, but
with the same speed as these when these higher risk treatments are
successful.
Osteopaths
are most ideally suited profession in their knowledge to back up
their treatments with ergonomic lifestyle and positioning advice
for individuals, groups or companies.
Osteopathy
has outperformed Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (the commonest
treatment for this type of problem) and other conventional treatments
in a 1994 trial (Journal.AM.Ost.Am, 1994; 94:647-63) for "repetitive
strain injury", and has repeatedly drastically cut lost work
hours when used in corporate situation where the range of musculo-skeletal/mechanical
disorders needed to be treated.
